Modernising Investment Document Workflows with Intelligent Notes

The investment research landscape is shifting. Every fund now has access to the same frontier AI models, the same public filings, and the same conference call transcripts. When everyone can summarise an earnings release in seconds, summarisation stops being an edge. Public information, no matter how efficiently processed, converges toward consensus – and consensus is already priced in.

So where does differentiation actually live?

It lives in your research. Your management meeting notes. Your internal thesis milestones. Your engagement history and scorecard assessments built over years of coverage. This proprietary corpus is the only durable source of alpha in an age of AI abundance.

Today, we are announcing Intelligent Notes within CalibreRMS Intelligence: a new capability designed to help Investment Analysts, Portfolio Managers, and ESG & Sustainability Analysts unlock insights from their own research that human investors can otherwise miss.

..

What Intelligent Notes Is – And What It Is Not

Intelligent Notes applies frontier AI models to your proprietary research and external context to surface connections, contradictions, and patterns that would take hours – or be missed entirely – through manual review. It finds the thread between what management said last quarter and what they are claiming today. It highlights where your internal thesis diverges from broker consensus. It ensures compliance between proxy research against your voting policy.

This is not about AI writing your research for you. In early testing, we heard clearly from analysts that they want to retain ownership of their notes. The analyst’s voice, judgement, and interpretation remain central to the research process. Intelligent Notes is designed to augment that process: surfacing the insights and connections that inform better analyst-authored research, not replacing the analyst’s pen.

Every Intelligent Note is built on team-defined templates using custom prompts that encode your firm’s unique analytical framework. The output is structured, comparable, and saved directly into CalibreRMS as a permanent, auditable record alongside all your other research.

This is a document workflow tool for investment research.

Four Use Cases Where Intelligent Notes Delivers

We have designed Intelligent Notes around the workflows that matter most to fundamental research teams. Below are four use cases that demonstrate how the feature enhances daily work for Investment Analysts, Portfolio Managers, and ESG & Sustainability Analysts.

1. Broker Summary: Synthesising Sell-Side Views Without the Noise

Analysts regularly consume multiple broker notes on the same company, each with different assumptions, different price targets, and different conviction levels. Understanding where consensus sits, and where your internal view diverges, is essential, but synthesising five or six notes manually is time-consuming and inconsistent.

Intelligent Notes streamlines this workflow. Use the broker research available in the CalibreRMS platform, and the AI extracts key assumptions, compares price targets, and identifies where analysts agree and disagree on the drivers that matter to your thesis. The output is a structured comparison that highlights consensus thinking and the outlier views that might signal variant perception.

Importantly, this synthesis is grounded in the source documents. Every conclusion links back to the specific broker note and page, ensuring the Analyst or Portfolio Manager reviewing the summary can click through to verify the underlying analysis. The days of copying and pasting bullet points into a Word document are over.

2. Proxy Research Review: Aligning Voting Decisions with Your Policy

Proxy season places immense pressure on stewardship and ESG teams. Hundreds of ballots arrive in compressed timeframes, each accompanied by dense proxy advisor research that must be evaluated against your firm’s own voting policy.

Intelligent Notes allows ESG & Sustainability Analysts to upload proxy advisor recommendations alongside your internal voting guidelines. The AI cross-references the advisor’s rationale against your policy, highlighting areas of alignment and areas of divergence that require human judgement. Where ISS or Glass Lewis recommends voting against a remuneration report but your policy permits support under certain conditions, the Note surfaces that conflict explicitly, complete with citations back to the relevant policy clause.

This is not about outsourcing the vote to AI. It is about ensuring your team reviews every contentious ballot with the right context at hand, reducing the risk that a vote slips through without proper scrutiny. The rationale you record becomes part of the permanent engagement record, ready for the stakeholder who asks three years from now why you voted the way you did. All these votes and rationales are stored in CalibreRMS as part of the System of Record.

3. Guidance Shift: Tracking What Management Said and Whether They Delivered

Earnings calls are rich with tonal shifts and subtle language changes. But the real signal often lies not in what management says today, but in how it compares to what they committed to four quarters ago.

With Intelligent Notes, analysts can upload the latest earnings call audio and supporting documents – results releases, investor presentations, broker research – directly into the platform. CalibreRMS transcribes the audio with speaker diarisation and then applies your team’s custom prompts to extract guidance changes, compare current commentary against prior commitments, and flag where management has shifted language on key drivers like margins, capital allocation, or market share.

The output is a structured assessment that answers the question your thesis actually depends on: Has management delivered on what they promised, or is this another quarter of “macro headwinds” excusing a miss? That assessment is timestamped, tagged to the company record, and visible to the entire team, including the Portfolio Manager who needs to see thesis drift before the market prices it in.

4. Post-Reporting Wrap: Sector-Level Synthesis Across Your Coverage

After reporting season, analysts and Portfolio Managers need to step back and assess themes across the portfolio. Which companies beat on margins? Where did guidance disappoint relative to expectations? Are there sector-wide signals emerging from management commentary?

Intelligent Notes supports this synthesis at scale. By drawing on your internal research from one-on-one management meetings, the structured notes, scorecard updates, and thesis milestones captured throughout the quarter, AI can generate a sector-level wrap that identifies common threads and outliers across your coverage universe. This is not a generic industry summary pulled from public sources. It is a synthesis of your team’s own research, surfacing the patterns that only your proprietary corpus can reveal.

For Portfolio Managers preparing for investment committee meetings, this capability transforms preparation. Instead of reading fifty individual notes, you receive a structured overview that highlights where the portfolio’s exposure aligns with emerging trends and where it may be at risk.

Extending Intelligent Notes Beyond CalibreRMS

The value of Intelligent Notes extends beyond the CalibreRMS interface. Through the CalibreRMS MCP (Model Context Protocol) server, analysts can access Intelligent Notes directly within their preferred AI environments, whether that is ChatGPT, Claude, or a custom internal agent.

Pulling Intelligent Notes into your AI workflow: When preparing for a management meeting in Claude Desktop, an analyst can query CalibreRMS via MCP to retrieve the latest Intelligent Notes on a company. The AI assistant receives not just raw documents, but structured, thesis-aligned research that reflects your firm’s investment process. The pre-meeting briefing is grounded in your proprietary context, not a blank slate of public filings.

Creating and running new Intelligent Notes from external tools: The MCP connection is bidirectional. Analysts can trigger a new Intelligent Note directly from their AI environment – uploading documents, selecting a template, and running the analysis – without switching applications. The final output flows back into CalibreRMS as a permanent record, tagged and timestamped like any other research artifact.

This architecture ensures that however your team chooses to work – inside CalibreRMS or across connected AI tools – the research remains in one system of record.

The Analyst’s Judgement Remains the Alpha

We return to where we started. AI is not the edge. AI processing public information is consensus by definition. The edge is your proprietary research, and the irreplaceable human judgement that determines what that research means for your portfolio.

Intelligent Notes does not diminish the analyst’s role. By compressing the time between question and structured answer, by surfacing contradictions buried in hundreds of pages of documents, by ensuring every company is evaluated against your firm’s own criteria, the feature frees analysts to focus on the work that actually generates alpha: the non-consensus insight, the pattern recognition built over years of coverage, the willingness to disagree with the market when the evidence supports it.

The firms capturing real productivity gains from AI today are not chasing autonomous agents for the sake of fashion. They are embedding intelligence into structured workflows where AI makes every step faster and more consistent.
